For The Reserved Or The Unreserved?

Hey Guys! Well, today's topic is selected unanimously by all my fellow friends who happen to be from a wide age range. As the title might have hinted, I'm here to tell you about the notorious "reservation system" of India.

Yes, I know that it was put forth by one of the most knowledgeable people of the world, Dr. B R Ambedkar, but during his tenure, that was the best measure that could have been taken to ensure no discrimination on the basis of caste occurs.

But now, I don't feel that there is any differentiation on the basis of caste system for employment, education, medical and other opportunities. I feel as if the reservation system is being taken for granted by the people who can take advantage of the system.

I have seen many people who take studies lightly and slack off on hard work and still get a position whereas the one who works hard and is skilfully experienced to be in that same position is not given an opportunity.

Is this the meaning of equality? Where the hard work, skill, knowledge are almost of no help for the person to get a seat in the college, job or any other position but his caste could?

I agree that reservations were a necessity, but till a particular time, when the people were too narrow-minded to see that a person's caste doesn't make him/her different from any other person. No matter what his/her caste is, we've come from the earth and there we will go in the end.

In today's scenario, nobody gives a rat's posterior on which caste you belong to. Neither is it compulsory for a sweeper's son to become a sweeper or a doctor's son to become a doctor.
Then according to me, any one of you with even a minute amount of common sense should be able to realize that the reservation system of India is completely outdated.

Just tell me, how is a nation going to progress where it's people fight, pull out strikes, rallies, and morchas to prove that they're backward. Even if they put as much effort in improving their knowledge and skills as they do in these rallies and strikes, they wouldn't even have needed these said reservations.

The reserved categories have been exploiting these reservations so much that now we have doctors who don't know the name of the surgical instruments, engineers with no technical skills, and many more. They just want the title and the value that comes with the degree in the society but don't want to work hard for it.

Now I'm not saying every person under the reserved categories are like that, there are people with skill, knowledge, and efficiency amongst them.

If you ask me, I think the reservations have lead to a change in the classes altogether. The reserved people are now the upper classes and upper middle classes of the society.

I mean, if it's THAT necessary to keep reservations, change the rules. Keep reservations on the basis of a person's financial status. Keeping reservation on the basis of caste is just like continuing the discrimination under the pretext of equality.

I have seen the nation's people cry and complain about how the brain drain is a big problem in India. Has anyone ever gone deep enough into the issue to realize that the brains are not even getting the opportunities they deserve in their own motherland, whereas a foreign country is more than satisfied to accept them.

Well, I know things can't change in the spur of the moment but small gradual changes won't hurt anyone and it would also prevent a massive protest.

In my opinion, India would have already become a developed nation if the reservation system had been revised at the appropriate time. There is still time. It's better late than never, isn't it?

But on a serious note, please don't make the further generations suffer for what the old generations thought was right. Times change, situations change and if the constitution changes and adapts to the new changes, it would be easier to process that change. Jai Hind!

  1. I agreed with you but few points I would highlight when Dr Ambedkar draft the constitution he claims that reservations will be their only for 66 years and still its continued second most of govt decides to put reservation on financial basis it’s too difficult to decide someone status on it to get the reservation
Third and most importantly even If we decide to revoke the reservation system it won’t happen our pappu and his frnds wont allow to do this in any government
But yes Reservation system should be removed
